It is officially fall here in the Mid-Atlantic and I could not be more excited. As I sit in my four seasons room writing this inaugural post, I am greeted with the fall colors from my window, and I am in complete awe.
Growing up in Hong Kong, fall was never a thing, per say. I mean yes, the weather changed, it would get cooler (relatively speaking), and folks would say that autumn has started, but that was all the more I ever recall it being. The vibrant colors of nature were never to be seen in the concrete jungle. Quite frankly, I do not know if there are even native plants that experience this seasonal change in Hong Kong. And then I moved from Hong Kong to deep South Texas, and there were definitely no fall colors to speak of. The only nature colors I recall ever seeing were green and brown.
It was not until I moved to the East Coast that I experienced the majestic colors of nature. I remember being in Poughkeepsie and seeing a line of trees exhibiting their vibrant red leaves. I was in awe! And now as I reside in the Mid-Atlantic, going on over 15 years, I am still in awe of the fashion show nature hosts every year. I relish the view from my four seasons room where I get to see bursts of yellows, oranges, and reds to welcome in the autumn season. Apart from the natural beauty it also feels like a refreshing time of year – the brisk cool air, cozy sweaters, warm spiced drinks, potentially even reduced allergens. In some ways it feels like a nice reset to tackle the fast-approaching year end.
I am using this reset as an opportunity to finally start my blog. I have toyed with the idea for years, potentially even decades. However, I always hesitated - what do I write, what do I say, who will even read my posts? After thinking and rethinking I finally decided to take the plunge and start this endeavor. The reality is that there are more people out there like ourselves than we realize. Plus, if I never start, I may never know what might have been. I hope you join me on my journey – one blog post at a time…
On that note, I wrap up this short, but sweet post to head out in my cozy sweater to take a brisk walk and enjoy the fall colors.
